MV Reactive-Power Compensation
TBBZ MV Automatic Reactive-Power Compensation

TBBZ MV Automatic Reactive-Power Compensation

TBBZ medium-voltage reactive-power compensation equipment uses grouped shunt capacitors and an automatic controller to adjust compensation as network demand changes. Designed for 6 or 10 kV, 50 Hz systems, it helps improve power factor and reduce the reactive-power burden on distribution feeders.

The series uses capacitor groups sized for the project and targets a corrected power factor of 0.9 or above. Capacitor groups, switching arrangements and protection are sized to suit the load profile, with harmonic conditions taken into account when defining the bank configuration.

Key Features

  • Automatic load-tracking compensation
  • For 6/10 kV medium-voltage networks
  • Raises power factor above 0.9
  • Improves power quality and reduces losses

Typical Applications

  • Utility distribution substations
  • Metalworking and mining plants
  • Chemical and cement plants

Installation & Aftercare

Prepare the site, plan routine checks and keep service records.

What needs to be ready before installation?

  • Allow service access to capacitor groups, switching devices and reactors, with electrical clearances taken from the supplied arrangement.
  • Provide ventilation for capacitor and reactor losses, and locate the assembly away from water ingress or conductive contamination.
  • Coordinate measurement, protection, earthing and group-switching control with the network design, including the specified discharge arrangement.

What should operators check during routine rounds?

  • Monitor power factor, group status and protection alarms; record persistent imbalance or repeated group trips.

What is covered during planned maintenance?

  • With isolation and capacitor discharge verified, qualified personnel inspect capacitor swelling or leakage, fuses, insulators and reactor connections.
  • Investigate hot connections, failed groups and abnormal reactor noise; cleaning and electrical tests follow the supplied service programme.
